Find Out More About The Breed

HERITAGE

The Black Welsh Mountain breed was established in the 13th Century. They were then selectively bred to produce a pure breed in the 19th Century.

They are now commonly found in Mid-Wales, but also can be found in small flocks across the UK.

SHEEP

The Black Welsh Mountain sheep are small and compact. They produce good quality meat.

FLEECE

The breed has a dense black fleece, which has a soft and fine handle. It is often used in traditional Welsh woollens.
